May 2008 Student of the Month

Bikram Yoga Fremont's student of the month is Cecilia Agosta. She challenged herself to complete 100 consecutive days of Bikram Yoga and was succesful in meeting her personal challenge!

This is no easy feat- balancing work, family, and personal time. My hat is off to you Cecilia!

Below is an e-mail that Cecilia sent to her friends, announcing the completion of her 100 consecutive days of Bikram Yoga
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Today I completed my 100 days of Bikram Yoga!!! (Yes Lou 100 days in a row).

I have been practicing Bikram Yoga for about 5 months now. Bikram Yoga is the "hot" yoga practiced in 105C/60% humidity or in other terms "Simon says in Hell". I know this sounds like another one of my "mid-life crisis" phases just like the motorcycle phase, but this is a good (safe) phase.

So why did I do 100 days? My cousin Deanna and her husband were telling me that they completed a "100 days of yoga challenge" at their studio, and the results and benefits from their experience inspired me to set my own personal challenge.

I have to admit it took a lot of determination and commitment to schedule 90 minutes of exercise every day in my busy schedule of watching TV and playing Suduko. There were many times I wanted to give up after "day 25", or "day 50", and there were many days when I cheated during some of the postures, but after seeing results, I stopped being a wimp and stopped cheating myself.

So what were my benefits?

1) 100 days of "ME" time

2) 100 days to get out of the house and away from work.

3) 100 days to actually see results in my body and peace of mind.

4) I have two new favorite words "change" and "namaste". When the instructor says "change" I know the posture is over. When the instructor says "namaste" I know the class is over. Namaste means 'may you live long'.

But seriously, I've lost noticeable inches around my waist, my arms have toned up considerably and I feel stronger than ever and more at ease. Everyday the boys ask me "mom, how was yoga today?", and my response is always "it was AWESOME !!!"

Of course with benefits, there are disadvantages.

1) Piles and Piles of laundry (thank you Mike for always making sure my yoga clothes were ready for the next day ).

2) No time for family vacations (especially around the holidays), in fact I missed one of our Christmas traditions because I had to go to yoga.

3) I probably lost a couple of friends, because certain people (I'm not going to mention any names but, you know who you are) were so sick of me talking about "yoga this" and "yoga that"

So what's next? I'm going to do a 365 days challenge of yoga- jk

Well I'm still going to continue with yoga, but maybe only 5 days a week. My new goal is to master each pose without shaking so much ;)

I'm not a representative of the Bikram Yoga studio, nor do I get a discount for the number of people I get to sign up, but I highly recommend you try it out. You'll either love it as much as I do, or you'll hate it and call me crazy ;)

If you are interested in signing up, the Bikram Yoga studio is in Fremont (Automall and Fremont Blvd). The instructors are very friendly and welcoming. For all you bargain hunters, the studio has a deal for new students, $10 for 10 days, what a deal, $1 a day. Here is the website if you want to check it out. http://www.bikramyogafremont.com/

[My friend Val will save you a spot. Thank You Val for always saving me a spot ;)

Namaste
